CITY ROADS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your correspondent writing regarding the deplorable state of the Main Smith road through Cuversham simply states the true aspect of the matter. King street and the North road, North-east Valley, are in a similar condition. Is the time not opportune for the City Council to seriously consider (without waiting for the Highways Hoard’s decisions) the laying down of a permanent roadway o.f Trinidad asphalt from its boundary at Normanbv to the Caveraham terminus via North road, King and Cumberland streets south. Princes street south, and over Cemetery Hill, through Cnversham to the boundary with Green Island borough P According to recent valuation notices, city property shows an increase in values with an additional ratio of rateable value. With the great increase in tramways revenue (in fact, in all commercial concerns under the control of the City Council), it should be a. serious concern of the council to properly form such a road for heavy and motor traffic, thereby relieving the main thoroughfare of its at-times-con-gested traffic. The matter wdll have to he faced sooner or later, as the rapidly increasing motor traffic will require to he diverted from the main streets.—l am, etc., D.M.S.
