Earnest Inquirer (collecting statistics for a work on temperance): “And how many glasses of beer would you—er—consume in a day?” The Person: “Well, I can’t say, Some days I ’as about twenty or thirty, an’ thou again, another day, perhaps I might ’avo quite a lot.” Mrs Now called at the greengrocer’s to make a complaint. “ I ordered a dozen oranges from you to-day,” she said sharply, “and you only sent me eleven. How Was that?” “Well, ma’am,” explained the greengrocer, “ one qf them was so bad that I took the liberty of throwing it away for you.”
