Thomas 'Williams was sentenced to eighteen months’ hard labor and Geoffrey Arden to sis - months’ imprisonment.—A. and N.Z. Cable. • [Thomas Williams and Geoffrey and Charles Arden were charged with conspiracy to defraud Douglas Arden of moneys and securities, it was stated that the Ardens, aided by Williams, kidnapped their grandfather, who was eighty-one years of age, in a London street, and drove him in a taxi cab to Gloucester street, where lie put his signature to eleven bills for £‘5,000 each. Counsel explained that there had been some discussion on the appointment of a receiver under the Lunacy Act, which was done in November. Knowing this, the grandsons hatched an ingenious plot by which they offered to sell him a collection of pictures valued at £50,000. When the grandfather was out under the charge of an aged coachman they induced the latter to go to a bogus address, and while he was absent they drove off with the old man.]
