STILL UNSETTLED
FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE (Per United Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH,''-January 29. The Canterbury freezing works dispute is still unsettled, though the men have been working at the normal rate for the last two days, in view of tonight's conference with the employers which had been convened by the Conciliation Commissioner, but no settlement was arrived at. The union asked if the employers represented at the conference—namely, the New Zealand Refrigerating Company. the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Messrs Borthwick and Son, and the North Canterbury Sheep Farmers—were empowered to give an undertaking on behalf of all the companies affected. The employers replied in the negative, stating that the award was dominion-wide in its scope, and they would not bind all the other companies. The conference was then adjourned.
