INTERNATIONAL VAUDEVILLE

SEASON OPENS TO-DAY A powerful vaudeville company from the J. C. Williamson Theatres commenced a Dunedin season at His Majesty’s Theatre this afternoon, the first evening performance being to-night. The now combination is headed by the brilliant and loquacious comedy pianist, Herschcl Healere. His return visits _to Sydney and Melbourne were a series of triumphs. The Sydney ‘ Bulletin ’ says: “ Under the spell of Herschol Henlere at the Tivoli the rent collector is forgotten for a while. Ho presents a crescendo of laughter, and his forty minutes on the stage are full of clever action and delightful eccentricities. Herschcl Hcnlero has improved if anything hy his two years’ absence from Australia. Ho is a, great artist. ‘Yes, We Have Ko Bananas,’ played as a grand opera selection, is a gem.” A striking thing about these vaudeville companies from J. C. Williamson Theatres is that each show presents a different phase in the art of vaudeville. This new combination is again different. The star is supported hy a popular London comedian, Scott Sanders, composer of ‘ On the Road to Anywhere,’ which has won him worldwide fame. Ho presents raconteur items piquant, and breezy, and one, of Ilia offerings, ‘ The Old Knife Grinder, is described as a “cameo of real life.” Modern dancers, hut different, is the billing of Lydia and Desmond, who present a dancing sensation. Amazing trapeze artists are the “Bonos,” with their novelties. From the Continent are Lcs Mason and Sunny, a musical act with a. puzzle in it. A remarkable contortion act is that of Fantasia, whose turn is done in a delightful setting. Direct from London are the Three Swifts, cluhjnggling comedians, who, with their hurricane manipulations of clubs and their quaint remedy, am popular in most of the world’s leading vaudeville theatres. The hex plans for to-night are at the Geyser, where day sale tickets are also obtainable.
