Y.W.C.A. CAMPAIGN

MONEY REQUIRED Mrs Taverner presided at a meeting of the Advisory Committee of tho Y.W.C.A., whose main business waste consider tho holding of a finance campaign at the end of tho month. Jho two" years’ experimental work carried on in the extension department has more than justified itself, as is proved by the establishment ol the To Tallinn i.a Clubhouse in South Dunedin, tvith its rapidly-increasing membership. The funds guaranteed for this work are now exhausted, and i.4O(J per annum is urgently needed to carry on this work, in addition to tho sum which the members had undertaken to ra.i.so by ices and other efforts. Certain additions in flic way of cloak: rooms to the axiministration buildings j are badly needed. The board, too, has j under consideration the appointment of an expert physical director for girls’ work. The Recreation Hall is eminently suitable for all branches of health work for girls, and the various sports elubs—fourteen basket ball teams, two hockey and two tennis clubs- will greatly benefit by such an addition to the present staff, and the instructress might also possibly bo available for outside groups. Tbe.ro is at the present time scope for work on many lines, all of which would be of benefit to tho girls and women of tho community, and the committee lias decided to make a widespread appeal to the city for the necessary funds at the end of January and beginning of February. A small sub-committce was appointed to make plans for a campaign and to organise the work. This is tho first time that the Y.W.C.A. has gone to the public in this way, but it is felt that an association which has carried on steady work in the city since 1373 will not "fail to secure tho recognition and support which it deserves.
