CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES

A SPIIiiTEB DEHAHD

MET BECISTERS BETTER TORE

[Per United Press Association,]

CHRISTCHURCH, January 7. T] ic second Christ church wool of the season was commenced this evening at 7.30, and the two first catalogues were sold before an adjournment was made. The catalogue comprised 20,0-3 hales. The quality of the offerings was very disappointing, a good deal or the wool being tender and in many cases dingy. Back-country dips showed the effects of the severe -winter and erratic spring. There was a full bench of buyers, representing all centres. The sale was a ammd one from the outset, tho demand, being spirited and the competition general. It was in marked contrast to the hesitancy and irregularity that featured the onening sale. All wools met with a firmer demand, ana good to superior wools showed an advance or from Id to Id per lb on the first sale, whilst shabby sold more freely, with little appreciable advance. ] 1 in " stance of the briskness of the oiddmg and the improved tone of tho market, only 56 bales of tlie first catalogue or 4.432 hales were passed, and 2 1 out of the second of 1,795. The top price of tho sale to-night was 321 d for merino. , The best Corriedale price was 21BJA two-bale lot of half-bred made 21 Jd, and a seven-halo lot 21Jd. A thrce-quartor-hred lot made Isa, and cross-bred 13d. . Merino pieces made L‘}d, Corriedale to IGd, and half-bred to 16|d. PRICES ADVANCE CHRISTCHURCH, January 8. Tho wool sale was resumed this morning. Tho demand was again keen, with tree competition. Prices for supoi. wools were from halfpenny to a P el ' m y in advance of the last sale. Othei classes sold well -without any quotable change in value. There was virtually a total clearance.
