OCTAGON Laura La Plante and Pat O’Malley are co-starred in ‘The Teaser,’ which commences a season at the Octagon Theatre to-night. Miss La PJa.nte plays the role of a girl who falls in love with a cigar salesman (Pat O’Malley), only to find that his breezy ways and loud raiment do not please her family. Then, to got even when her aunt interferes in this odd love affair, she proceeds to flirt with all the married men in their set. ' The musical programme to be played by the Octagon Concert Orchestra includes a selection from the musical play ' Going Up ’ (Hirsch); suite 1 Dances Miniatures de Ballet ’ (Ansel!); two preludes, op. 28, Nos. 0 and 7 (Chopin); ‘ Mignonette ’ (Friml); ‘ Pizzicati-Bluette (Lack); selection from 1 The Pearl Girl ’ (Felix and Talbot); 1 Petite Valse Caprice ’ (Collins); ‘Conte cle Grand Mere’ (Renaud); ‘Polish Dance’ (Statkowski). EMPIRE A now Johnny Hines picture entitled ‘ The Early Bird 7 was given initial screening at the Empire Theatre this afternoon. Hines, who is cast as a milkman, has appeared in many roles and this, his latest, is not less humorous than those which have gone before. There is a girl in the story, and the unfortunate vendor of milk finds that courting one of the fair sex is an expensive, if delightful, proposition. Hines makes laughter and fun out of the most unexpected incidents, and his dexterity in extricating himself from the most embarrassing dilemmas forms a stogy full of humor and hilarity. In the supporting cast are Sigrid Holmquist, .Wymlhnm Standing, Edmund Breeso, Hand Turner Garden, Bradley Barker. Flora Finch, and Jack do Lacey. Selected music will be played at the ('veiling session by the Empire Orchestra. PEER’S A First National release, 1 Soul Fire,’ with Richard Barthelmess in the title role, opened to-day at the Queen’s Theatre. The story concerns a young American, a gifted musician. Ho struggles to write a groat symphony. Ho leaves Italy for the South Seas, and it is not until he disentangles himself from the superficialities of civilisation and gets back to the simplicity of nature itself that he can express himself brilliantly in music. EVERYBODY'S ‘ North of Nome,’ which opened today at Everybody’s Theatre, is a drama of the frozen north. To make the story more realistic the film was entirely made in Alaska, amidst the great snow-covered mountains and passes of the famous laud. 1 North of_ Nome ’ features the famous screen villian, Robert M‘Kim. As a supporting picture ‘The Fast •Set ’ is shown. Bet ty Compson and Elliott Dexter have the featured roles. The story tolls of a husband who proved that Ids wife’s friends were false. PLAZA m GRAND Dealing with the lure of gambling and its disastrous results, ‘ The Wheel,’ now at tlie Plaza and Grand Theatres, is a powerful picture . In the cast are .Margaret Livingston, Claire Adams, Harrison Ford, and Mahlon Hamilton. Miss Livingston has the role of a calculating woman of the world; not exactly a “ vampish ” part, but one nevertheless admirably suited to her distinctive talents. An excellent list of supporting items are also provided. KING EDWARD ‘The Early Bird,’ in which Johnny Hines is featured, is showing at the King Edward Thealre.
