The Tongariro arrived at London on December 17 from WelFington, The Maimoa will leave Port Chalmers on January 7 for loading at Tokomaru Bay, Gii,borne, Napier, Tiuiaru, 'Wellington, and Lyttelton. She will leave Lyttelton on about January 28 for London.

The Wairnna was to leave Ocean Falls on Saturday for San Francisco to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. Waitemata was to leave Lautoka on Saturday with a cargo of sugar lor Vancouver. Waihemo, now at. Blull, proceeds to New Plymouth to complete discharge. Lucistnn (chartered steamer), from Vancouver, reached Melbourne on December 11, and proceeded thence on December 'l7 to Sydney to complete her discharge. 'The Kareiu, which was in leave Lyttelton to-day for Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin, is due here on Friday to continue discharging assorted freight and to land transhipments ex the steamers Re de Italia, Sr,. Albans, Ormonde, Wyrecna, Tennessee, Barabine, Simla. Himalaya Mam. Narkunda, Mishinm Marn. Bnrwah, Kowarra, Eldcrfield, Euripides, Demosthenes, ’ Ventura, and Caprcra.
THE RENT
The Now Zealand Shipping Company advise that the steamer Kent, winch was on lire, is expected to be ready for loading before the end of this month, and will take the January loading berth for .London. The rotation of her coastal ports has not yet been fixed, lint she is expected to clear Wellington on January 20 for Home. The vessel’s three forward holds have been rebuilt in heart of kauri. New refrigerating pipes have been installed, and the holds arc now hotter than when the ship was launched in 1918. The Kent arrived at Wellington on October 31 from Dunedin after completing discharge, and tb.o work of repairing the vessel was immediately put in hand by the New Zealand Shipping Company. Nos. 1,2, and 3 holds are now considered to be heller than when the Kent left the stocks. Previously they were constructed of Baltic pine. The woodwork has been coated with a special varnish. In No. 2 hold there are four thicknesses of timber on the floor, which resembles the line polished surface of a dancing floor. The whole of the “ delicate cotton ” insulation has. been removed, and replaced with cork. Twenty-Two truck loads of rubbish have been laken out of the Kent and scut to the “tip” al Tliorndnn, to be. used for reclamation purposes, and much of the old timber lias been disposed of a:s firewood. The Pipitea wharf is still littered with wood, sonic of which is quite sound. RUAPEHU RADIOS, A wireless message received by the Now Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the Ruapehu states that the vessel will arrive al AA'cilington Sunday :il'(cnn v 'M Irom London and Southampton. Complainfs about the Union Slcarn Ship Company’s .acrvice to the AVcst Coast were echoed at last evening s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, when tlicre was read a lei ter from the. Iron and Steel Company enclosing correspondence from a West Coast linn in which it was stated dial the trade with Dunedin would be in jeopardy unless some stops could be laken to make it more regular. “ Arc they aware that there is a railway to Grcymouth?”—Air H. P. AVcst, district traffic manager. Air Campbell said that it was admitted that vessels trading to the AVcst Coast were too largo in tonnage. They took longer to load. They bad a regular service when vessels ol between snt) and 600 tons were in regular use. Another member said that the trade to Wanganui was carried on by small vessels, and they were found very satisfactorv. Air Campbell remarked that some of the vessels used in the West Coast trade were larger than those winch brought the goods from England years ago.
