The thieves had used a jemmy to break away the lock on the street tloor, which is the only entrance, to the shop. The inside woodwork of the door, which holds the lock, was broken aw;ly so Dial, the door swung open with ;Jst a push. Evidently the thieves had worked in comparative comfort. As (hero is a kind of alcove between the dividing wall of the shop and the shop window, they would be well screened from tho street while they were forcing tho door open, for the entrance is a few feet in from the ordinary front shop level on the footpath.
