[Albert Neilson Hornby was educated at Harrow, and played in the, Eton-Harrow cricket match in 1884. He was for many years captain of tie Lancashire County eleven. He was a, member of Lord Harris’s team which, visited Australia, in 1878-79. He played for England against Australia at the Oval in 1882, and Manchester in 1884. He was a hard-hitting batsman, and a brilliant fieldsman at cover-point. His most successful season w;ta in 1881, when he scored I,fid 1 runs with an average of 41.11. Ho represented England at Rugby football.]
