IMPERIAL AIR SERVICE

EGYPT TO INDIA THREE-ENGINED MACHINES TO BE USED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December IG. The progress of the arrangements with Imperial Airways, Ltd., lor the Egypto-lndian air service was reported to the. House of Commons by Sir Samuel Hoare (Air Minister), who said that the most important point emphasised by the detailed survey of the route which was carried out in September was the great advantage which would result from the use of threeengined machines, thus making forced landings improbable. An .agreement had subsequently been drawn- up providing for a subsidy on the basis of a regular fortnightly service of thrccenginod machines for goods, mails, and passengers in each direction via Bagdad and Basra. It was hoped that the subsidy and an increase of the traffic would enable the company eventually to make it a weekly service. The maximum annual subsidy would bo £93,000 for five years. Owing to the time necessary for the construction of the three-engined machines it was not expected that the service would operate much before the end of next year. —Renter.
