THE CHAMPION GLOAMING.

PROBABLE APPEARANCE AT WINGATUI.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club the president reported that he had extended an invitation to Mr G. D. Greenwood to send Gloaming to the Boxing Day Meeting for a parade in order that the public might see the champion. To the request Mr Greenwood replied as follows: “ Your letter of the 9th inst, has just reached me, and 1 am sure both Gloaming and his owner are very flattered at the invitation you have extended to him. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see my champion on a Dunedin course, but unfortunately my arrangements for Christmas racing are already made. I am looking forward to being able to bo present, however, at your February meeting, and if it is convenient to you .1 wiTl try to arrange to let the champion accompany my team. I must, of course, consult my trainer, but hope to be able to let the good sporting public of Otago see Gloaming, if not for racing, at any rate for a parade. Wishing you and your club every success at your coming meeting.”

SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM’S VISIT. Mr A. Vamey presided at a meeting of the New Zealand Football Association. It was decided to grant a New Zealand referee’s badge to Mr F. C. Jacobs. Auckland, on the recommendation or the Auckland Association. _ The question of the replacement of injured players was again brought up, and it was decided to allow a remit to be brought forward by tho Auckland Association at the annual meeting, although most members were of the opinion that to allow replacements would be contrary to tho rules of tho English Football Association. Mr F. Campbell thought Mr Skerrett’s opinion should be obtained on the mlo that tlie game should bo “played by eleven men.” Seven associations replied expressing their willingness to give guarantees in connection with the proposed South African team’s tour. No further reply has been received from tho South African Football Association. A sub-com-mittco was appointed to deal with a reply when a communication was received.

Tho Australian Football Association wrote agreeing that the tour of tho South African team should bo extended to Australia. Several proposals wore received from various associations spgcesting names for the handsome silver trophy presented by the English Football Association. It was decided to call it the “ Football Association’s Trophy.” CRICKET. SOUTH OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. Tho following players have been chosen to represent South Otago v.
