ST. PHILOMENA’S COLLEGE

MUSICAL ENTRRTAINMENT. 11m students of Si. Philomena's College., South Dunedin, gave an entertainment in Sv. Patrick’s School Hall'last evening. The proceeds are to go to the school funds. The hall was well filled, and the audience included Bishop Whyte and the Rev. Fathers Rooney, Halley, and Delaney. Two little girls, Moira Duggan and Sheilagh Mooney, welcomed the bishop. The piograramc opened with a chorus, ‘ Queen of the Night,’ after which six girls • (Misses Ehyllis Smith, Sheila Campbell. Catherine Forde. Aroha Allen, Annie Deegan, and Kathleen Whelan) played ‘ ’ on two pianos. An action song by the boys was well received, and the college choir rendered in Gaelic ‘Kathleen Ny Honlahan.’ ‘ Bant-en Train ’ was played as a piano duet by Misses Whelan, Allen, and Gladys and Phyllis Smith. The juniorgirls contributed an excellent notion song, and the college choir brought the. first part of the programme to a close with a chorus, ‘ Good-night.’ The second half of the entertainment was devoted ty a five-act drain a entitled ‘ ’Pile Shepherdess ol Lourdes,’ or ‘ Tliv Blind Princess.’ The chief part’ was taken by Miss Patricia Burke, who played as Bernadette, the shepherdess. Her acting was very natural, The other principals all acted well.
