It is not a rabid West Coaster, but an engineer of some standing, who bemoans the omission of any representation of the Otira tunnel. In the first flight of New Zealand’s big engineering achievements the only electrified tunnel in New Zealand is mentinned in the official catalogue, which chronicles it as the largest tunnel in the British Empire, and the third largest in the world.
