(Re. -paved December 3, at 11.40 a.m.) The * Petit liarisidn’s * correspondent, describing the situation in Syria, which is awaiting the attention of the new High Commissioner (M. do Jouvenel), says:—“Hands of insurgents, little affected by tho sharp French lessons that they have received, continue to infest Southern Lebanon. They are stirring up trouble in the Mount Hermon district, and are threatening the road to Beirut. Their method is to march on a village, accompanied by mnlcs and camels laden with arms and ammunition secretly obtained, and to arm and incite tho inhabitants to revolt. They then extend thoir> operations, blowing up bridges, and terrorising Christians.” 'Hie correspondent quotes an instance of the intrepidity of the Druses, when a party of twelve recently entered Damascus, sacked a police post, and departed singing.—A- and N.Z.
