ST. CLAIR CROQUET CLUB

NEW LAWNS OPENED. Tho new lawns of the St. Clair Croquet Club were opened yesterday afternoon. . , ~ Mrs T. Fleming, president of me club, welcomed the visitors, and asked Mr T. K. Sidey to make the oxncial ° P Mr U |idoy said he appreciated the honor, as'he was always glad to identify himself with tho instiuiitions of the district. Ho regarded tlio event as an important one in the annals o. St. Clair, and congratulated the dub on the possession of its new lawns, and on tho service it was contributing to tho health of its members and to. the social life of St. Clair. Ho paid a special tribute of thanks to Mr 1. Fleming for tho fine services rendered by him. That the club was in tho satisfactory position it was that day was almost entirely tho work ot Mr Fleming, not only in controlling the financial arrangements, but also . m personally supervising the formation work. Ho declared the lawns officially opened, and wished tho members many happy hours upon them. He men called on Mr Fleming to play the first ba Mr Fleming explained that the club had formerly only ono small lawn, which it had leased from, tho bt. Clair Bowling Club. The howling club having determined to remove to a new oround tho Croquet Club bad to look out for other promises, and had asked him to obtain offers of available areas. Amongst those submitted was one oft lugs avanue, belonging to Mr C. Hairaway, and he had advised tho oliio to accept it. This the club had agreed to do, and he bad at once started operations, trenching, fencing, and levelling. Tho result was the threo beautiful lawns now finished, and another one was nearmg completion. The last one had been purchased from Mr Smart, . Three cheers were given. for Air Idem in'", and the company joined in heartily singing ‘For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.’ The club starts its season with thirtyfive playing members and a number of honorary members.
