Mr Baldwin, speaking at a meeting at Glasgow, said that, m order to encourage mass production, the Government had decided to increase the Wheatley housing subsidy from £160,000 to £200,000 for the first 4,000 houses of alternative types in Scotland. He declared that whereas England was overtaking housing arrears, the position In Scotland was getting worse. People wore living and dying in hovels, and the Government could not stand by without making the utmost efforts to provide a remedy,—Reuter.
