MISS AUSTRAL AS “CO."
FAMOUS SINGER IN A DIVORCE SUIT Mrs Amadio, the wife of Mr John Amadio, the famous flautist, has filed a petition for divorce in the Australian courts in which the name of Miss Florence Austral, the world-renowned soprano, whoso voice- is familiar to every on ner of a gramophone, is mentioned. Miss Austral and Mr Amadio are at present living in Hampstead. “The petition was. filed in January,” said Mr Amadio to a ‘ Daily Express ’ representative. “ AVo expected that the case, which is undefended, would bo heard in June. I have been separated from my wife for sonup years; in fact, long before I met Miss Austral.” Both Miss Florence Austral and Mr Amadio come from Melbourne, and recently they performed, together in an Australian concert at the Queen’s Hall. Miss Austral’s real name is Wilson, but she adopted her present name when she became a professional singer. She was unknown until twelve years ago, when she was induced to sing at a village concert, after which she studied for live years at Melbourne. She then vent to New i T oik, and actually refused a i offer from the Metropolitan Opera Company, as she preferred to try her luck in England. Success came suddenly at Covent Carden three years ago, when a prima donna in "the Valkyrie’ was ill. Sir Landon Ronald suggested that Miss Austral should take the part of Brunnliilde. Her subsequent performance at short notice was a triumph, and she won renown in a night. Her voice is superb, with wonderful volume and range.
