Airs AT. Alartin, account due, £5 11s ltd: the Commission ol Taxes v. Peter Harvey Bell, income tax due, £J Js. TENEMENT CLAIM. A claim by Elizabeth Harrison, Green Island, against Aaron Davies, of Abbotsford, for possession of a dwellinghouse at Abbotsford and the sum of £lO 10s, rent due at the rate of Os per week, with mesne profits, was not defended. Judgment accordingly was given for plaintiff. CLAIM FOR NURSING. Stating that on the three days for which plaintiff was claiming she was not at the house, 11. Boss, a mariner, disputed the claim of a nurse, Alorris (Air J. AI. Gillies), for £1 os for attention to Ross's wife. Ross questioned the plaintiff, but when giving evidence himself said he had kept no record of dates.^ “ But it’s a case of a working man right through,” he added, ‘‘ and no other nurse would claim.” “She is entitled to it,” said the Alagistrate, “ and I will have to make an order.” “ Well, I can only pay Cd a week,” was defendant’s parting shot. TOO LATE FOR ARGUAIENTS. “Wrong assessment of income,” was the answer of Gordon Alartin Bennie to the claims of the Commissioner of Taxes for £7 income tax due. The Alagistrato explained to the defendant that when the Commissioner of Taxes brought to the court a claim for Hffi recovery of taxes the court had no jurisdiction but to allow the claim. Any disagreement with tho assessment should have been brought under tho Commissioner’s notice before tho court proceedings. Judgment was accordingly entered for the amount claimed, with costs (18s). ______
