CALEDONIAN SOCIETY MEETING
PALMERSTON AND WAIHMEO The annual meeting of members of ■ the Palmerston and Waihemo Caledonian Society was held on Wednesday evening. Thirty members were present, and Mr D. Boss, retiring president, occupied the chair. I The balance-sheet shJwod a credit balance of £35 8s 10d. i it. was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the family of the late Sir James Stewart, and also to Mr J. S. V. Morrison’s family on account of his : illness. The election of officers resulted as ■ follows President, Mr P. J. Galln'gban; vice-president, Mr 0. F. Overton; patron, Hon. E. H. Clark, M.L.0.; secretary, Mr M. J. M'Cabe; auditor, Mr R. Anderson; General Committee—all members, six to form a quorum; treasurer, Mr James Philip; bellringer, Mr J. Shaw; timekeeper, Mr G. H. Stent; starter, Mr J. Gordon; referee, Mr David Ross; judges of running—Messrs R. MHntosh, GI M'Laren, A. M'Kean, I. Day, and J. I Purvis; judges of hammer, ball, and | caber events —Messrs J. Black, W. B. j Brunton, W. Wilson, R. Galloway, and R. Cameron; judges of jumping— Messrs George Roberts, W. M'Kenney, D. J. Ross, and D. Dreaver; judge of wrestling, Mr Murray Cameron; judges of cycling—Messrs A. Fleming, J. S. Miller, J. Moodio, J. Anderson, A. Fraser, and C- Smith; judges or children’s events—Messrs W. Pittaway, L. Barclay, H. Sbeat, F. Campbell, D. Kennedy, and W. Freeland. Stewards were also appointed for tho various events. It was decided to hold the annual sports on December 31. It was decided to make application for the championships for tiio South Island for the field events. The membership fee was reduced to ss. The prizes for several events were raised, and during the evening six or ■ even gold medals and several other prizes v/ero offered,, .
