Sir George Hunter, head of the Swan, Hunter, Wigham shipbuilding firm, has written to JJr Baldwin suggesting that an inquiry into coal mining is not enough. He considers that the present situation demands an immediate and comprehensive inquiry into the economic position of tho whole of the country s industries. The future of the British Empire is at stake. Shipping is becoming more and more depressed, and ships are increasingly lying up. The iron and steel trade, is largely idle, and shipbuilding yards are closed or closing. Sir Georg© Hunter concludes: “ Wo are not on tho road to improvement.
