Mr J. H. Hardlev, vice-president of the Dominion Bowling Council, left Dunedin for Auckland this morning. Mr Herbert Coull was a passenger by the 11.30 train to-day, booked for Wellington. Mr H. E. Farrant (chairman of the Southland Court at the Big Exhibition) and Mr J. E. Winsloo (secretary) arrived from Invercargill this morning. Mr M. Barnett wont to Christchurch from Dunedin to-day. The Rev. F. E. Harry (president or the Baptist Union) returned from his visit ti Southland to-day, and wont on, bound for Wellington. Dir W. Gardiner travelled by the 11 train this morning from Dunedin to his home at P.apnkaio. Mr G. W. Skellerup, manager Para Rubbo" Company) went from Dunedin to Christchurch to-day.
Mr R. D. Kellv, chief inspector of the Post and Telegraph Department, will retire on superannuation _ at the end of the current month, having completed over forty-two years’ service with the department. Mr Kelly was appointed to the Post Office staff at Napier in 18S3, and was employed there and at Auckland for the following twenty years. The Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes arrived from Tiiuaru by last night’s express. Mr Hughes will preach in Knox Church to-morrow. Dr Williams and Dr Cannalt Jones have returned to town after spending a week at Leith House, Waitati. Mr D. C. Cameron, jun., has been elected a director of Reid and Gray, Ltd. Mr Charles Robertson, of the local Post Office staff, has been promoted to the position of assistant supervisor of the Post Offico Savings Bank, Christchurch. Among those staying at the Grand Hotel are Messrs H. Gibson and V. Froeth (Christchurch), Messrs K. M'Lennan and J. V. Slovens and Miss M. M'Lean (Timaru), Mr and Mrs Adamson and Messrs F. Howarth and R. Anderson (Loudon), and Mrs M. Campbell (Svdncy). New guests staying at tho Excelsior Hotel inejndo Mr J. S. Stewart (Wellington), Messrs Simpson, J. H. M‘Calhim and K. D. Willis (Christchurch), Mr W. AC Clarry (Invercargill), Air and Airs Webster (Sydney), and Air E. J. Crorabio (Stratford). Staying at the City Hotel are Mr E. Batchelor (Timaru), Messrs J. Blakey and J. Kilkclly (Invercargill), Mr J. Hnrdloy (Auckland). Mr E. Demslor (Ranfurly), Mr S. Horbrongh (Lumsden), and Mr A. Neill (Christchurch). A Hastings Press Association telegram states that at a meeting of Hawke’s Bay Maoris Hone Aloketa was accepted as the Labor candidate for the Eastern Alaori electorate.
