MANCHESTER UNITY
Loyal Milton Lodge was presided over by N.G. Bro. it. H. G. Baird, ami there was a good attendance. A iiearty discussion took place on the proposal to come.before the district meeting to create a hospital fund. Tlio existence of such would mean a regular contribution from members, entitling them to free treatment in any public hospital. The discussion was adjourned after several brethren had spoken on the subject. Congratulations were extended to tho Social Committee on the successful annual ball held, the function attended by 140 couples having proved a brilliant success in every respect. An invitation was received to the Hibernian social, and two delegates were appointed. Loyal Prince'of Wales, _ Port Chalmers, met on Tuesday night in the Druids’ Hall, when the attendance was good, despite the bad weather. One candidate was initiated aud one proposed. After routine business had been transacted the lodge adjourned to entertain its lady friends, these being present in goodly numbers. Games of cards, songs, aud recitations were indulged in. A plentiful supper was provided, and special thanks wore accorded to Mrs F. G. Macdonald, Bro. W. Parker (of Loyal Nasoby Lodge), and Bro. E. Brown, for their carrying out of the musical programme. The evening closed at 11 o’clock with ‘Auld Lang Sync.’ A largo attendance greeted N.G. Bro. Swalo at the meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge in Forbury School Hall. Four candidates were proposed for membership. Tho N.G. reported that throe full official visits counting for the district competition had been successfully carried out. The Social Committee reporting on tho recent social announced that a small credit balance was shown, and, attended by sixty couples, the function had been very successful. The committee, and also E.S. Bro. Roberts and P.G. Bro. T. Fronde, were heartily thanked for their labors. IVardon lira. Wooloy was also accorded thanks for arranging the splendid music provided as a donation to _ the lodge. A progressive 500 competition was hold under the guidance of P.G. Bro. T. Fronde, and proved very enjoyable, Bro. J.nglis being declared tho winner. Bro. A. Knight also scored a prize. Refreshments being handed round, D.P.G.M. Bro. G. Clarke presented the prizes. The visitors’ toast was responded to by Loyal Hand aud Heart, Dunedin, Albion, and Caversham Lodges. D.P.G.M. Bro. Clarke and P.P.G.M. Bro. Rosovearo responded on behalf of the executive. Loyal Caversbam .Lodge met at ForImry Corner Hall, the attendance being'good. N.G. Bro. Lummy and V.G. Bro. M'Donald reported on visiting the ■sick brethren. A juvenile member, Bro. Chisholm, was initiated into tho adult lodge. It was decided to approve tho action of tho N.G. in applying for the dispensation for tho female lodge. Responses to the visitors’ toast were made by Loyal Centenary, Albion, and alloy Lodges. A ladies’ night in tho form of a dance was held, some thirty couples .being present and participating heartily in the proceedings. After supper N.G. Bro. Lunam addressed those present on the subject of the proposed female lodge, pointing out its advantages, and bespeaking for it the support of all friends. Loyal Caversbam Juvenile Lodge bold a bright meeting on Wednesday in the lodge room, Forbury Corner. Responses to the visitors’ toast were made by the Loyal United Juvenile and also by P.P.G.M. Bro. J. A. Bobson, who announced his intention to provide a programme for October 7, and D.P.G.M. Bro. G. Clarke, who addressed tho boys on general matters. P.P.G.M. Bro. J. Briggs then took charge, having provided an orchestra for the entertainment of those present, among whom wore parents anil friends. Various orchestral selections wore rendered to the great enjoymnot of those present. After a bountiful supper had been provided, thanks were accorded to Bro. Briggs for his entertainment, it being noted-that the order had been indebted many times to tho brother for similar ads of kindness. Hearty cheers wore accorded to the performers. and a happy evening concluded with the National Anthem. The, Loyal Valley Lodge was well attended in the Albany Street, Lodge room. The business to come before tlio district mooting was briefly dismissed, and tlio matter was adjourned to tho next lodge night. Permanent Secretary Pro. W. Palmer, P.P.G.M. Bro. J. ‘A. Robson, and N.G. Bro. Swan were, elected delegates to tho district meeting; on September 20. iho Social Committee was thanked for its efforts in mailing the anniversary social a pronounced success, tlio secretary (N.G. Bro. Robinson) being specially mentioned. A ladies’ evening was held, and progressive euchre was indulged in, after' which supper was provided and tho prizes distributed.
