Evening service in Welsh churches in olden times were not often held in winter, as there were no facilities for lighting the churches. In Lhuisannan Church sixty years ago there were no lamps, nor any standards for candles, but lumps of clay were stuck on the ends of the scats, and on those candles were fixed.
