CAREFUL WIFE’S ILL-LUCK AX INCIDENT AT AVEMBEEf. LONDON. Angus! 1. Mr Edward Connsh bought in thfl Australian pavilion at the Empire Exhibition some opals from the stand of Mr Jenkins, of the Lightning Ridge black opal Held. Three opals were selected by Mr Cornish, who put them in a cardboard box and placed it in his pocket, hut his wife, thinking it was unsafe, placed the box in her handbag. AVhile she was examining other .stones the bag was opened by a thief and the box was extracted.
