(12 p.m.), 1,172 tons, Cameron, for Napier aiid Gisborne via ports. SAlLED.—August 19. Kahika, s.s. (12.20 p.m.), 1,172 tons, Cameron, for Oamaru, The Breeze will sail this evening for Tinniru, Lyttelton, ‘Wellington, and Wanganui. Tho Kahika sailed this morning for Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton to take in additional cargo ior .Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. The Waikouaiti arrived this morning to load general cargo. To-morrow morning she will sail lor Bluff, Melbourne, and Sydney. The Opihi arrived to-day from Nelson. She is discharging and loading general cargo, and is to sail to-night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Nelson. The Willastpn is scheduled to sail at C. 30 a.m. to-morrow for Bluff and New Plymouth. Tho Waihora is expected to leave Lyttelton on Thursday lor Dunedin to discharge general and coal cargo from Sydney. Tho Waitomo. owing to rain and a shortage of railway trucks at Lyttelton, will not load at Melbourne beloro August 27 for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Wingatui was to leave Bluff this afternoon, and is duo at Dunedin tomorrow morning. She should sail in tho evening tor Tiinarn, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Tho Storm is duo to-morrow Irom 'Wanganui via ports. The Dorset sailed to-day for New Plymouth to complete discharge of her overseas cargo and load for the Homeland.

Tho Canadian Britisher should arrive, on Sunday from Timaru to discharge the balance of her cargo Irom Montreal, and to load dominie products for New York, Boston, and Montreal. A wireless message received by tho Union Company from the captain of the Kaivatiri, coming from Geelong with wheat, states (hat the vessel will arrive on Sunday. THE FERRY SERVICE. TONGARIIvO TO RETURN. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Tongariro, which arrived at London on August 5 from Auckland, has been fixed to load at the Home port for Lyttelton, Port, Chalmers, and Nelson. She is scheduled to sail on August 26. KARTIGI LOADING. To commence her loading for New Zealand porta, the Union Company's new steamer Kartigi arrived at Sydney (Cape Breton) on August 13. At Montreal she will complete loading, and is scheduled to clear there on August 25-for Auckland, Wellington, Picton, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, j

ROMEO’S ARRIVAL. The Ellerman-Hall Line steam§r Romeo, from New York via Newport News, Panama, Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, reached Dunedin yesterday. Site was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge a, quantity of general American cargo. The Romeo visited New Zealand and Australia about two years ago, and afterwards tradtd for somt time in the East Indies. On her present voyage she left Leith in ballast for New York, where a full cargo of case oil and _ general merchandise was loaded. Leaving New York on June 27, bunkers were replenished at Newport News, and the Romeo resumed her voyage on June 30. Colon was reached, and Balboa was cleared on July 8. The voyage was uneventful, and lino weather conditions prevailed most of the time. A smart voyage for a cargo steamer was made from New York to Auckland at an average speed of eleven knots, the run from Panama being covered in twenty-five days. The Romeo carries a crew of sixty-seven all told, seventeen being Europeans and the remainder Asiatics.

Line, is expected to sail on Saturday for Bluff and Newcastle to complete discharge. DISORDERED SIGNAL. Tho following message was broadcasted by Alelbourne Radio at 1.30 a. on Monday :—“ Commonwealth Lighthouse Sendee reports that tho fog siren at Point Lonsdale is out of oz'der. Ships aro warned accordingly.” AORANGI TYPE DEAIANDS. 11 is reported that following upon tho success of the Union Company’s tine motor passenger ship Aorangi, ship owners are now placing orders for this type of vessel, particularly with regard to the cargo carrier. Recently the fine caigo motor vessel Upwey Grange was launched for Moulder Bros., and Company, Ltd. She is intended for the River Plate meat trade. Now comes the nows that the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd., Glasgow', have secured an order from tho x Bihby Line for a twin-screw r passenger and cargo motor vessel of about 7,500 tons gross. The propelling machinery is to consist of FairfieldSulzer Diesel engines similar to those installed by the Fairfield Company in the Moulder liner Upwey Grange, but of greater power. There wdil be 4,000 b. on each shaft, instead of 3,000 Tlie speed of the vessel is to be fifteen knots. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
