Afc Port Chalmers last night Frank Bast, a fireman on the steamer Pearlmoor, went into a fish shop and assaulted the owner, Mr A. Love, by knocking him down and kicking him. A young fellow who went to the old man’s assistance had some of his teeth kicked out. Best was arrested, and when brought before Messrs N. Podds and J. Tait, J.P.s, at the Police Court this morning was convicted. As the justices did not think it_ desirable that the man should remain in the country the fixing of the penalty was deferred until the afternoon, so that the dato of departure of the steamer might he ascertained.
