DEADLY “LIGHTNING"
KILLS AT SEVEN MILES AX INVENTOR'S CHALLENGE. SAN FRANCISCO, August 3. The inventor, Air Edwin Scott, _ promises to answer ridicule and scepticism next month by a demonstration of his “death stroke” off the Californian coast. Mr Scott claims already to have killed animals at a distance of seven miles. He says that ho sees the end of war if the United States can perfect his system, which is described as synthetic lightning. obtained by generating 250,000,000 horse-power, projected in a violet ray. Naval officers will experiment with the system on dead trees and steel plates. Scott warns all human beings &o keep out of the way.
