A compulsory conference between the coal miners and owners has commenced in an endeavor to settle a number of outstanding disputes. (Received August 18, at 1 a.m.) The Coal Conference adjourned Jill Tuesday without reaching finality. Ihe proceedings are in camera. APPLICATION FOR DEREGISTRATION SYDNEY, August 17. An application to the Arbitration Court by tbo Metal Trade Employers’ Association for the Federated Moulders’ Union to show.cause why it should not bo deregistered for conducting an illegal strike was allowed to stand over for'a week. The case arose out of tho strike of the moulders a t the t lyde engineering works on Inly 27 last as a protest against the employment of nnski lied labor.
FOUNDERED AT SEA MELBOURNE. August 17. SYDNEY, August 17. Tho High Court delivered its reserved judgment in the appeal of Mr Tom Walsh (president of the Seamen’s Union) against his conviction on two charsets at the Police Court in Melbourne. The court quashed one conviction, but the other, in which Walsh was fined £IOO, was allowed to stand.
