All were reported lit *iud well, and the statement that E. N. Greatorex, the big forward who toured New Zealand in 1923 was suffering from tho effects or an injured thumb was denied. Quito a number of the players .are new to Now Zealanders. In tho backs E. Reid, A. E. Toby, C. Morrissey, D. G. Mr Baker is an able lootball coach, and is of the opinion that the nippiness of the team would more than make np for the lack of weight. Tho inside backs are heavy, and one of the fiveeighths (T. Lawton) has played for Oxford and London, as well as New South Wales and Queensland. Four of the plavers are from tho country, and Mr Baker was pleased to say that tho Rugbv game was extending there. It was reported that the names of the two trial teams to meet on Saturday with a view to the selection of the Otago representative side would bo available the next day. The ordinary competition games will be resumed on August 29. Written endorsement of the acceptance of the Otago Rugby League’s lease of the Caledonian Ground was received from tho Caledonian Society. Tho Secretary of tho Now Zealand League wrote acknowledging tho receipt of advices concerning tho Otago League's success with regard to the tender for tho Caledonian Ground. Tho letter added :—“ Of course, we are all pleased to hear that yon have got tho ground, and feel certain that with this at your command the Otago League will go ahead by leaps and bounds.” Complimentary reference to the Otago League on its acquirement of tho Caledonian Ground was made by the Canterbury Longue, which advised that, though October 3 was a little late for tli© annual game between Otago and Canterbury in Dunedin, the fact that the date mentioned would bo to the iidvantngo of the Otago League was accepted. Mr Watt handed to the executive the Arthur Ellis Cup, for animal competition by senior teams in Dunedin. It was decided that the presentation of the cup be made at a special function. The secretary was instructed to ascertain from Canterbury the conditions governing the competition for tho Thacker Shield, now played lor by South Island teams. Headquarters reported that the New Zealand team now in Australia would moot a special Auckland team on its return. Mr Scddon referred to a regrettable incident which occurred on Saturday, when three players left the field just on lime, allegedly as a protest against ill© referee’s ruling. He thought this was a very serious matter. The chairman said that there was no written report from tho referee, who had appeared personally. It was decided that, in accordance with the rules, a yeport must be submitted in writing, and tho players notified to appear before the Judicial Committee.

GROUNDS FOR IMPORTANT GAMES. It was reported that provision had to be made for games at Dunedin against Auckland on September 5 and Queensland on September 20. Tho Secretary reported that the Rugby Union’s lease of the Caledonian Ground did not expire until September 30. When advised that the League’s tender had been accepted from that date for five years arrangements were entered into with the Caledonian Society to negotiate with tho Rugby Union on a courtesy basis for tho cancellation of the lease for September at a stated sum, or, ill the alternative, a, percentage of the gates for any matches —one intorprovineiai and one intercolonial. Ho much regretted having to advise that although the Rugby Union was not receiving any revenue from the ground in September, it refused to entertain any proposal on the League's behalf. The secretary of tho A. and P. Association was also approached, and he. stated that under the lease to the Rugby Union tho Tahuna ground could not be let to any other society controlling lootball without tho permission of the Otago Rugby Union. Tho Chairman stated that in view of the fact that there would bo some doubt about matches being permitted on Forhury Park after September, and in view of the Queensland match set down for September 26, it _ was considered that the most advisable course was to apply to tho St. Kitda Borough Council for the use of Culling Park for these occasions. Members expressed strong disapproval of tho fact that two of tho leading grounds of the city should be closed up during September, when their use by the League would bo a good advertisement for tho city all over the dominion. Another speaker said the League had no need to worry, as it was only a repetition on a small scale of what occurred last year. It was at least a consolation to know that neither of the visiting teams on this occasion hailed from tho Homeland. Tho public was tho best judge of the Rugby Union’s generosity. The meeting decided to concentrate its efforts upon Culling Park, and, if possible, arrange some special scheme lor seating accommodation. SOCCER. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The president of tho executive of tho Otago Football Association (Mr H. J. Duncan) occupied the chair at the weekly meeting held last evening. Tho Secretary of the Now Zealand Football Council advised that the trophy presented by the English Football Association had arrived. The council was considering the question of using tho trophy for competition among the major associations and relegating the Brown Shield for competition among the minor associations.—lt was decided to endorse these recommendations. Tho Council further wrote that in connection with the Chatham Cup semifinal recently played at Christchurch between Seaclifr and Nomads the Canterbury Association had reported that the gate receipts amounted to £27 Bs. The amount cine to the Seacliff Club was approximately £l2. Two of tho members questioned the amount of tho gate receipts, and it was decided to write to the New Zealand Football Association in regard to the matter. The Secretary of tho Oamaru Rangers Club wrote stating that the Oamaru hoys wore greatly disappointed that the Otago school representative team could not break its journey on its return from the north at Oamaru to plav a match. It was explained that the" concession tickets granted by tho Railway Department were for one week only, and that if the team broke its journey at Oamaru it would cost a further 8s per head.—-It was deckled to communicate with the Hon. C. E. Statham, M.P.., asking him to assist in tho matter. The Northern (second grade) team was granted permission to play Oamaru Rangers at Oamaru on August 22. The Rev. \V. P. Rankin wrote suggesting that an Empire tournament he held during the Exhibition.—Received. It was decided that Mr Rankin be thanked for his suggestion, which would be favorably, considered.
