SEVEH’A’SIDE TOURNEY FOR HAYWARD CUP THE POINTS,
The annual tournament for the Hayward Cup was played to-day on the Oval, which was in a very muddy state, consequently spectacular hockey was out or the question, but nevertheless some of the games were hard fought. ’Varsity A, by their better combination, won all their games, and so retained the cup. Tho only serious mishap occurred to W. Davies (Tech. Old Boys), who received a rather severe knock on the knee, which necessitated his removal to the hospital. Messrs Hewitt, Johnson, and Payton acted as referees, while Mr H. Sow Hoy filled tho role of supervisor. LADIES’ GAMES POSITION OF TEAMS.

Miss Lyders, who was playing a bustling game, drew first blood, and a few minutes later, right in front, kicked the ball through the goal, and was penalised. Training College were unlucky from a scramble in front of goal, the ball stopping on the line. Half-time was called—Training College 1 up. Training College set up a hot attack, but both Misses Milne and Kingston, who 1 were now showing greatly improved form, were equal to the occasion. Miss Adanft cleared to Miss Lawson, who transferred to Miss Gray. Tho latter player, after a good run, drew the scores level. Otago added another two goals in a few minutes, Misses Lawson and Lattnner being responsible. Give-and-take pL'iy followed, both sides showing signs of the strenuous game. Training College now took a hand, and Miss Gray scored. The game was very even from now on. Otago 3 Training College 2 Messrs lb. S. Wallace and J. Martyn were the referees.
