THE DELEGATES AT AUCKLAND TOUR OF THERMAL REGIONS [Per United Press Association.] ' AUCKLAND, August IC. The Aorangi arrived this evening with Empire Press Union delegates. The party was mob by Sir George Fenwick (chairman of the_ New Zealand brunch of the Press Onion) and other members of the branch. The visitors will be accorded a civic reception to-morrow morning, and for the remainder of the day will be the guests of the proprietors of the Auck- i land daily ' newspapers. To-morrow i evening they will attend a ball to be , given by the Northern Club to the j officers of the American fleet. On ■ Tuesday morning they will leave bv : special train for Rotorua, a _ tour of: the thermal regions extending over : throe days having been arranged by 1 tho Tourist Department. _ Alterwards j visits will be paid to Waitomo, Tara- j nnki, Wanganui, and Wellington. VISCOUNT BURNHAM INTERVIEWED PRAISE FOB NEW ZEALAND PAPFHS. [Per United Par.ss Association.] AUCKLAND, August J 7. Viscount Burnham, interviewed. said Unit so far they had had a magnificent journey. They .had travelled liy the All Bed route, receiving in Canada a warm welcome. They had been ahle%i spend four days in the .Becky Mountains, and in Vancouver they had received a civic welcome and a public lunch at the hands of the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and tho Newspaper Press of Canada, .lie regarded the Press Union as a great Imperial movement. The Governor of Hawaii had honored the delegates at Honolulu, and a similar courtesy had been shown them at Suva. The purpose of the organisation was to obtain the most, eflieienl service for I lie newspaper Press throughout the Empire. In regard to cables and wireless, the arrangements it had made had been of very groat advantage. Then' were hianchfs in every pari, of Hie Empire. One representative of India was with them—Mr ’Moore, editin' of the 1 Statesman,’ Calcutta ; and another from India would join them in Australia.. Malta was represenled, and a delegate would go to Australia from Singapore. “ I am fpii'le familiar with New Zealand newspapers,” Lord Burnham proceeded. “ New Zealand is said to he, and I expect, to find if, the most British of all Iho British dominions, and giving one Die most keen sensations of Home. Thai applies equally to the New Zealand Press. There is marked similarity between ihe newspapers of New Zealand and ihe older newspapers of Britain. Tvpical papers, such as ‘The Times,’ ‘Scotsman,’ ‘Manchester Guardian,’ and ‘ .Daily Telegraph ’ are suggested by ihe make-up of the New Zealand newspapers, I.heir choice of subjects. and (lie manner in which (hey are treated.
