WASHINGTON, August 11. _ The Navy Department h.? been notified by wireless from El.ah NAS that the MacMillan aeroplane was nearly sinking from a leak caused by _ the pounding of 1.1 10 surf, it was hoisted on board the Peary, and is being repaired. Planes have flown across Ellesmere Land to Hayes Fjord, where open sea permitted a landing. They also discovered another place free of ice west of Flagler Fjord, where another attempt to establish a base will he made as soon as tho weather conditions improve.
