AND O. LINER CHITIIAL.

Now on her maiden voyage from England to Australia, the liner Chitral, the third and last .of the now steamers built for tho P. and O. Lino’s Australian service, is over 15,000 tons, and will not carry more than 300 passengers. With this small number to cater for it has been possible to design the cabins and public rooms ’on _ a generous. scale. Every cabin has its own porthole, every passenger has his own wardrobe, and there are only eighteen upper berths in the whole ship. Tho dining saloons and tho music and smoking rooms are both comfortable and tastefully decorated, thanks to Miss Elsie Mackay, daughter of Lord Inchcapo, who supervised the furnishing. The ship, which was built b.y Messrs Alexander Stephen and Sons, Glasgow, is twin-screw, and oil-burn-ing, and has a service speed of sixtee” knots an hour. Her total car;,!* capacity is 600,000 cubic loot, much of which is insulated for carrying refrigerated cargo. A notable feature of the ship’s auxiliary details is tho new ventilation system, by which fresh air is blown on to each berth, and into every part of the ship. The builders have throughout installed every modern appliance making for the comfort and safety of the passengers.
