Mr Angus Marshall, Mr A. M‘Fadyen, and Miss M. Holmes, who are to represent Dunedin at the annual conference of the Technical Schools Board of Teachers, left for Wellington by the 11.30 train to-day. Air James Fletcher wont north by train this morning, {pound for Auckland.

Mr T. De Spong left for Wanganui this morning, to adjudicate on the elo-* cution competitions there. Mr J. M. A. Ilott left for Wellington this morning after a business visit td Dunedin.

Mr A. Sutherland, of Invercargill, baa been appointed judge of the national dancing at the Dunedin Society’s competitions. Staying at the City Hotel are Mr and Mrs Moylan (St. Bathans), Mr J. i ■ho!son (Tapanui), Mr and Mrs iyers Oamafu), and Messrs G. Dome, !!,. Kent, J. Thurston, D. Todd, A„ Keats, M. Gough, and W. Elirker (Wellington). Now guests staying at the Excelsior Hotel are Mrs Shield and Miss Loom (Hastings), Mr J. Fortune (Manderille), Mrs’ A. Ball (Auckland), Mr IT. Pinckney (Waikaia), and Mr T. Smith (To Kuiii). Advido has been received that Mr Harper White has been successful in passing the final examination of tbo Australasian Institute of Secretaries. Air White is also a. member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. A Sydney message reports tho death of Mr’O. J. Roberts, a member of the Legislative Council, at one time Post-master-General in tho New South Wales Government; aged seventy-nine. Air William Grey, who passed away on Thursday, was born in Dunedin, and was educated in the Milburn and Milton Public Schools. Later ho joined bis father, Air John George Grey, on the homo farm at Bonington, Milburn, and subsequently succeeded to tho estate. Though carrying on mixed fanning, he was specially known as a largo breeder of pure-bred Border Leicester sheep, from the well-known flock of Lord Polworth. At various agricultural shows throughout Netf Zealand Ins fleck won for him medals, silver mips, trophies, and other prizes. Ho disposed of quite a number of longwoollcd sheep in tho Sydney market. As a breeder of sheen he was hold in high esteem throughout the South Island. Ho leased his farm and cam® to the city six years ago. He was a shrewd judge of values of both land and stock, and. being possessed of a genial and obliging disposition, with good business qualifications, ho oocu< pied a prominent place in the life of th< farming community. For over eighteen years he was chairman of directors oj die Otago Fanners’ Union and Mutual Fire and Accident Insurance Company, having had a good deal to do with tho founding of the union, and for a short time he was chairman of directors of the Otago Farmers’ Co-op. Association. He bad been ailing for some time, but passed away quite unexpectedly at his town residence in Higngate, Roslyn, He loaves a widow, two sons, and foul daughters.
