At the Timarn competitions held last week Miss Ethel Sinclair, of Dunedin, secured three first prizes and four second prizes in the Highland and national dancing events. Miss Dunn, who had been mistress at the Teaneraki School for the last two years, was tendered a farewell social recently. The chairman of the school committee (.Mr W. Howlands), in presenting Miss Dunn with an ivoroid-backeil toilet set from the parents and staff, ami a bedroom clock from the pupils, said he was sorry he had to make this presentation. .Parents and pupils alike, appreciated the interest Miss Dunn had taken in the little ones. She was a. conscientious teacher, had brought her pupils on well, and it was a, source of much grief that she had decided to leave the district. Mr Mivenzie (head master) suitably replied on behalf of Miss Dunn, and specially thanked the parents for their assistance to her during the epidemic to keep the children in touch with their work. New Excelsior Hotel guests are Messrs T. IM, and G. H. Thompson (Balclutha), Messrs A. N. Morris and A. Entrican (Wellington), Mr S. Clough (Christchurch), and Mr B. Mitchell (Auckland). A cablegram from London announces the death of Mr William Greenwood, Conservative member for Stockton since PHO. He was the head of a cotton-spinning firm. Mr J. S. Wallace, stalionmaster at Balclutha, has received notice of his transfer to Timarn, where ho will occupy the position of chief dork in the goods department. Mr S. C. Doyle, chief goods clerk at_ Timarn. succeeds Mr Wallace ns stationmaster at Balclutha.—‘ IT gd
