SOUTH DUNEDIN BAPTIST CHURCH
ANNUAL MEETITKG The thirty-eighth annual meeting of Iho members of the South Dunedin Baptist Church was held last, evening, when Dir W. 1. Ashton (Sunday School superintendent) occupied the chair. The Chairman expressed regret that the pastor, tho Rev. Guy Thornton, had unfortunately taken ill. Mr Thornton hud been able to preach his anniversary sermon on Sunday, but a sudden relapse had prevented him from attending the meeting. The chairman pa id a tribute to the work in the interests of the church carried out by Mr C. >). Darracolt, the church secretary and choirmaster. In addition, ho had tuifillcd other duties of the church. The financial position in connection with the church building fund showed that the present delicti amounted to l‘!87 Us. The Chairman said that the cost nt the'building to date was 11,181 IVs fid. Mr d. Downie, treasurer, said that at the beginning of the year there laid been a credit balance, on the working expenses of 12!) 11s. The income lor the vear lust ended amounted lo l-'-h los ‘ltd, and tbo cxpemnuiro to 1.1.;) IPs 1 Hii. leaving a credit balance ol 120 lbs hi. , , . , ~ The annual report slated that the vear commenced with a membership <u 121 baptised members, ty-mo seventeen members had been added by bap mm and five by fcranstcr from other churches, the year ending with an increase „f twelve members, the pnslot had commenced his fourth vear o service at South Dunedin. Jn addition, £oU iiad been contributed by church members to the Prohibition campaign funds. Special collections laid been taken up on behalf of the Dev. Mr Tackle amt the -Mrs Catchpole hinds, and Hie YMC V. The Sunday school roll showed a total membership of 248. with a teaching staff numbering twenty-six. The report also reviewed the activities of the oilier church organisations very extensively. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. . , . , Mr R. H. Todd (president o! the Otago and Southland Auxiliary HapDslT Union) congratulated the church on the progress it had made, and referred to the kindly relations which hud always existed hot ween the South Dunedin' and the Caversliam Baptist Churches. The llev. R. Robertson (M.osgiel) ami the llev. D- lleggio (South Dunedin Presbyterian Church) also addressed (lie meeting. During the evening the choir rendered several anthems, and Miss D. Wheeler sang ‘ Beyond the Night,’ and Mr C. J. Darracolt ‘My Task.’ At the conclusion ,yf the proceedings supper was dispensed.
