GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr and Mrs W. Higginson, of 21 Richardson street, St. Kilda, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by inviting about 300 guests to a social and dance in St. Kilda Coronation Hall last evening. Mr R. W. Hall, Mayor of St. Kilda, occupied the chair, and in proposing the health of the bride and bridegroom stated that the gathering was rather a unique one, ns Mr and Mrs Higginson’s four sons and four daughters, as well as twentyone grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, were all present. There had, said Mr Hall, been no break in the family during fifty years. Four generations were represented that evening. He referred to the high esteem in which the bride and bridegroom wore held by the citizens of Dunedin, and the toas't was received with musical honors. Rev. A. Wingfield, Messrs J. W. Dove, J. J. -Marlow, and H. Lethatiy also eulogised the good works of Mr and Mrs Higginson. Mr H. H. S. White proposed the toast of the bridesmaid (Mrs C. Leith). This was received with cheers, and responded to by Mn C. Leith, the bridesmaid’s son. A large number of congratulatory telegrams were received. Musical items were contributed by Mrs F. Clark, Mrs Burrows, Miss Olive Bennett, and Mr C. Higginson. The dance which iollowed was thoroughly enjoyed by the vounger members, and an enthusiastic gathering terminated in the wee suin’ hours. It may be mentioned that Mr and Mrs Higginson arrived in the dominion by Hie ship Allahabad on September 1, 1874.
