AUSTRALIAN MEAT INDUSTRY

DEHORNING OF CATTLE NEW METHODS OF FREEZING Prow Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. SYDNEY, July 29. (Received July 29, u-b 9.55 a.m.) At a meeting of the Australian Meat Council it was stated regarding the dehorning of cattle, that the attitude of the council was that it should take every means short of compulsion to urge cattle owners to dehorn their stock, but it was recognised that in certain districts it was not advisable to do this, as the cattle used their horns to break down the scrub. A communication was received from the Cambridge University Research Branch stating that it believed that within a couple of years the authorities there would be able to show improved methods of freezing, apd even chilling, meat that were quite unknown to-day. The council resolved to ask the Commonwealth authorities to prohibit the export of ram and stag nujtton altogether.
