The weeklv mooting of the executive of tho Otago Football Association was held in the secretary’s office last night, Hie president (Mr 11. d. Duncan) occupying the chair. OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. The Secretary of the New Zealand Football Association, Wellington,’ telegraphed : “ The Peter Dawson Cup match, Otago v. Southland, to be played at Invercargill on Saturday, is not in order, hut tho association has asked South Canterbury to waive its rights until after Saturday. If they agree, to do that tho playing of tho match will be all right.” . _ ~ A later telegram advised that South Canterbury had agreed to allow Southland to play Otago on Saturday. Tho telegrams wore received. It was also decided that the Dawson Cup bo forwarded to Invercargill and exhibited in that town tor several days before tho match. . , Air L. Scott congratulated tho players who had been selected to reprsont Otago, and wished the manager (Mr T M'Gillivrav) and his team every success. Air Scott said that this year Otago would have a harder team than it had previously boon its Into to meet. The Chairman said that all the members of the association wished tho team good luck, and expressed tho hope that Otago would retain tho cup. CHATHAM CUP.' The New Zealand Football Association wrote stating that the objection of Soaclilf to play Nomads at Christchurch had been duly considered by the Competitions Committee, but, as already advised, the decision was that tho match must stand. „ The Secretary reported that the boacliff team was prepared to travel to Christchurch, and that _ the manager would bo Air A. M. My 1 ic. The letter was received. ■ , „ „. , The Secretary of the Send iff Club wrote with reference to the heavy expense incurred by the chib in connection with the Chatham Cup contest. The club had to travel to Wellington to contest tho finals of the last two seasons, and in each case the amount received from the New Zealand hootball Association had barely exceeded one-third of the actual expense which the club bud had to meet. As a matter of fact, the club had not yet fully paid off the guarantors for the expense incurred’ last season. By tho club’s victory over the Oamaru Rangers the club would now ho called upon to travel to Christchurch to compete in the semifinal, which would entail a further substantial outlay. , . ] t was decided that the association s proportion of the gate money irora the match Seacliff v. Nomads at Christchurch he granted to the Seacliff Club. MORNINOTON CLUB. The Secretary of the Mornington Club wrote advising that at a committee meeting it had been decided to ask tlie association for financial assistance to tho extent of £2 2s. Owing to expen.sos during > the last month in repairing and painting the pavilion, the club was reluctantly compelled to approach the association for financial assistance. In connection with football in schools, the writer understood that a large number of boys in the High Street School were unable to play Association football owing to the school having taken on Rugby. No doubt this was not the only case, ’ and until the boys were given their rights the Rugby influence would be so instilled that Association football would not get a bearing. With regard to the knock-out competition, there were nine teams taking part. Seacliff had a bye last Saturday, and there were still five teams to play. Assuming that Seacliff would be again drawn to stand down, it would reach the semi-final, or possibly the final, without having played a game. In northern centres the knock-out competitions were devoid of byes, and in fairness to clubs in Dunedin the competition should consist of an even number of teams, the odd one dropped being the first drawn from the hat, or the bottom team in the premiership competition. The writer al.-n asked the committee to request the City Corporation to dig a drain for the surface water which ran off the bank on to the Mornington playing area. The ditch had been dug out by tho City Council some years ago, but had since filtered up, causing a stream to overflow the ground. The letter was received.

Tho secretary was instructed to reply that the appeal for assistance would bo referred to the Finance Committee, with a favorable recommendation, the matter of school football would be referred to the association Committee, the Match Committee would go into the matter of the knock-out competition, and tho City Council would be written to in regard to the drain. ' GENERAL. Tho Town Clerk wrote in reply to tho association’s application for the use of any reserve' that might he available, and winch was of sufficient size for a football ground. Tie had been instructed by the council’s Reserves Committee to advise that there were no playing areas available.—The letter was received. The Secretary of the Y.M.C.A. Association Club wrote asking if it would lie possible for the third grade team to have its bye on Saturday, August B. The letter was referred to the Match Committee, with a- recommendation that the request be granted. A letter was received from Canterbury Football Association asking the age, weight, and football standing of tho members of the team holding tho Skcrrett Cup. The writer said that if the particulars were supplied he would do his utmost to got a secondary school team in Christchurch to challenge for tho cup.—The letter was received, Mr M. G. M'lnnes volunteering to supply the information. The Secretary of the Rost and Telegraph third grade team wrote asking the association lyjon .which ili'

bye would be due. and if the executive would grant permission for his chib to send a team to play a match against the Oamarn Rangers on that date.—lt was decided that the application be granted for the third playing Saturday from Saturday last. In connection with the Southern Club’s appeal arising out of the recent match, Southern v. Mosgiel, it was decided that the referee be asked to appear before tho association next Monday night.
