During the weeks lie was in Melbourne C'omniandanto Di Pincdo had an excellent opportunity of studying (ho conditions under which civil aviation is being carried on and developed in Australia. Comniandante Di Pinedo said that ho fell sure that, in the near future, commercial aviation was destined to [day an important pari in developing euuutry districts in Australia, where tin, 1 scope for development by aviation and lor tho establishment of commercial services was far greater than was the ease in Europe. He thought that, the lines on which commercial dying was now being introduced wore sound, and that if future advances were made along those lines successful services would he established. From what lie had scon of Australian conditions he thought, that tho machines now in nso were extremely suitable for the work required from them. During his journey round tho Australian coast- he bad been convinced that flying conditions in Australia, were much more favorable iban in Europe, fn spite of that fact, Commandauto Di Pinedo added, be thought that a great deal of money must be spent in the near future on extending services. Not only would the number of machines in use have to be increased, hut large expenditure would bo required for the reservation of landing grounds and the construction of hangars. Admiration at the manner ,in_ which the Point Cook Flying School is conducted was expressed by Commands!nto Di Pinedo. While the establishment was not so largo as similar schools in Europe, he said, the appliances available for instruction were equal to the best he had seen, and the course of instruction was remarkably complete. The site at Lavcrton, at which it is proposed the main military base for Australia should bo is, ho considered, very well suited for the purpose.
