The crews of all interstate steamers which arrived during the week-end gave notice, and the whole of the waterfront is now idle. Both sides have suspended further action, ponding the result of Tuesday’s conference in Melbourne. At Melbourne both parties to the dispute held a conference to complete their plans for the joint conference tomorrow, at which it is expected an agreement to end the trouble will bo reached. VOLUNTEER LABOR WORKS SHIPS. COASTAL FLEET RUNNING. SYDNEY, July 21. (Received July 21, at 10.25 a.m.) The most important development in the shipping strike has been the, refusal by the watersidors to load the coastal vessels manned by volunteer labor. On all these vessels the cooks and stewards also left their employment, but the management was able to till the vacancies. A call was made for volunteer wharf laborers, and sufficient Have already been engaged to copo with the handling of the ships in port. With tlio exception of one or two steamers, all the coastal fleet is running. MOORINGS SLIPPED. SUSP ICTOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. MELBOURNE, July 21. (Received July 21, at 10.25 a.m.) During the night the volunteer crew of the steamer Awaroa was awakened by voices on the wharf. It was found that the moorings of the vessel had been slipped, and she was drifting into midstream. The crew succeeded in getting linos to the wharf again and making her fast.
