“WILD-CAT SCHEMES"

SYDNEY COUNCIL'S POLICY LABOR MEMBER’S CRITICISM. Mr O’Dca, one of the Sydney Labor aldermen, has attacked the recent land resumption proposals of the City Council, describing thorn as “wild-cat schemes.” Ho declared that the ratepayers were not getting sufficient service from the City Council for the rates that wore paid. In regard to the extension of Martin place, the widening of Park street, the extension of Elizabeth street, and other proposals, Mr O’Doa said that the council was embarking on an enormous expenditure of money without due consideration of the needs of the ratepayers. The council was committed to an expenditure of over £1,000,000 for resumptions. A great deal of that was either useless or unnecessary expenditure. Ho admitted that the Martin place scheme would bo an aesthetic improvement, but it was doubtful if it would be worth the money. Before the council embarked on anymore “ wild cat schemes,” added Mr Q'Bph, it should ask the Government what was its intention in regard to a Greater Sydney.
