SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK'. The Canterbury Progress League asked for the chamber’s support in the matter of tho completion of tho South Island Main Trunk line. A lengthy report was also forwarded.—-The (.'hairman said that they had in a measure endorsed the report, in that they had supported the .Royal Commission’s report on the subject. They had writton to tho Minister supporting the proposal in 1923 It was decided to support the request on tho motion of Mr Stewart. LOGAN PARK. The Otago A. and P. Society wrote stating that the society had been in communication with tho Dunedin City Council in connection'with the idea of utilising a portion of Logan,.Park for its summcr shows. The City Council had advised that tho council was unable 1o even consider allowing tho society’s shows to he held at Logan Park, for tho reason that the Harbor Hoard had included in its lease to the corporation a specific provision which prohibited the ma of the grounds for any purpose other than public recreation. The society had approached the Harbor Board, and a promise was made that tho whole question would bo considered. They were not iu a position to state definitely whether this area would suit their purposes, or even if the terms of the City Council would bo suitable, but they thought that it was somewhat hard that an institution like tho society should be prohibited from receiving any advantage that might accrue. Mr Watters said that they should support the request. He believed that tho Harbor Board was divided on the matter, it would bo of great advantage to the society if it could come to some arungemonfc with the City ConnCIJ • "4k, Mr Campbell said that the Harbor Board thought that it was a mattVr for tiie City Council and tho public to decide. There should bo no conditions. It was decided to support the proposal. SOUTH ISLAND SHIPPING. Tho Southland League wrote forwarding the following resolution passed at the conference of representatives of South island progress leagues;—“ That this conference supports the action of tiie South Island chambers of commerce in their efforts to secure adequate direct shipping to South Island ports, and that it bo respectfully suggested to tiie chambers that they keep the league advised of their actions.”—Received. COUNTY COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION. Tiie Vigilance Committee reported on the Wellington Automobile Club's request for the assistance of the chamber in securing a Royal Commission to inquire into the expense of county council administration j also as to an amendment to tho Main Highways Act being secured to give absolute power to the Main Highways Board to enforce maintenance of county roads. Tho committee agreed that a reply should bo sent to tho club that the chamber had not sufficient data to justify its supporting the resolution passed, but suggested that it might be worth while to make inquiries as to whether greater efficiency and economy could he obtained in some cases by tho amalgamation of county councils. TRADE MARK. A letter was received from the Association of Now Zealand Chambers regarding the dominion trade mark.— The Chairman said that the matter was not very clear, and it was decided to write to the executive regarding the subject.
