A CORRECTION

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—T shall bo greatly obliged if you will allow mo space for a slight but important correction in your ol my written evidence submitted last Friday to tlie University Commission. The sentence in question should have run : “It was too much to hope that many of our professors, however competent, would be known far outside the dominion.” Unfortunately 1 find the substitution of “any” for “many,’ due to a faint or faulty letter in the typing, gave a A'cry different turn to the meaning, converting what was an expression of regret for the consequences of our comparative isolation into something which might be taken for a. slur upon the attainments of our professors. I need hardly say that nothing was further from my yitention. It is matter for congratulation that wo have among ns some professors who, in spite of this islolation, are well and honorably known to their colleagues in other lands. Thanking you in advance —1 am, etc., W. J. Monnui.m July 20.
