Representatives of tlio unions associate;! with the workers’ transport groivn privately interviewed tho Premier (Mr Dang) concerning tho shipping dispute, and submitted certain proposals for a settlement to him. After placing the proposed terms before tho owners, Sir Lang stated that ho would announce thorn publicly. Although nothing is known of thoir nature,_ it is understood that the situation is much brighter. Tho owners of the Canberra, after an abortive conference with tho crow, decided to tie tho vessel up indefinitely. They have also tied up tho collier Malachite for a similar' cause. There arc now ten vessels idle in Australian ports over tho guarantee clause.
