.4XI) A BUTTLE OF RUM. EXITED STATES NURSES OX TRIAL. WASHINGTON', Juno 12. Ruth Anderson and Chtlli-erino Clancy are nurses hi the United States Naval Corps. They returned lately from Cuba, where some kind friend had given them, each a pint bottle cf Jamaica nun. Neither girl drinks, but they brought it home anyway, and to-day they are occupying (ho prisoners’ box in the first case in American history in which women have been tried by general court martial. Rear-Admiral Cary T. Grayson, Chief of the Naval Dispensary, had them arrested on the charge of importing intoxicants into the country. [Another message states: “Tho naval court martial acquitted the nurse Ruth Anderson, who was charged with smuggling liquor, which she brought hack with her after a holiday in Jamaica,. This comprised a demijohn of rum, a quart of gin, and a, fancy bottle of Scotch whisky. Miss Anderson had opened none of them, and when she told the court that they were all sealed, and that she could not know what they contained, it believed her, hut confiscated tho exhibits.]
