SHEEP STEALING ALLEGED

R. Murphy, amt on February 15 stealing twelve shew valued at £l2, tho properly of A, «t,t Jackman. J Murphy and accused are neighbors, and; it was stated in evidence tiiat at a niuetop at accused's place twenty-six wethers wern found, which were the property ol Murphy, and bore his mark, and al«s accused’s mark. In regard to Jackman’#) sheep, accused said that when he wa4 at M‘Lamina place looking for stragglers there were fourteen of Jackman's sheep there. Jackman used to bo his neighbor, but had left the district. M'Laurin salo Jackman's sheep were a nuisance, so accused took them, and after a week or two put his earmark on the sheep. Ho made a note in his diary, intending to inform Jackman, and pay him when they met. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, bail being fixed-self in £2OJ and one euretv of £2OO, or two of £IOO.
