HOSPITALS CONFERENCE
PAYMENT OF STAFF THE PRINCIPLE APPROVED. (Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 28. The Hospital Boards’ Conference approved of the principle of payment of honoraria to the staffs. Dr IValt, Acting Director-General of Health, said the suggestion was that there should ho a fulltime stipendiary staff, or, alternatively, a part-time stipendiary staff. There was an objection to the first suggestion on the ground that only a few men would be available. It was suggested that applications be called from medical men for a term of, say, two years, and renewable. The positions should bo in two grades, senior and junior, and in the ordinary course a, senior position should be filled from below. The susgestion was that a medical man receive a'salary in the vicinity of £2OO or £3OO a year, and bo required to attend a hospital at certain fixed hours and undertake certain definite duties. The department, did not attempt to suggest any revolutionary scheme.
